versus

and bad options

When a picture is worth thousand words.

ALGARBIORUM

Algarbiorum otherwise Al-Gharb

Leao was the first registered PWDs (1939).

Selected to start the Algarbiorum bloodline.  Leao was also the raw material for the STANDARD.

Vasco Bensaude (Algarbiorum) did not care to send his pure bred PWDs to the U.S.A. and it was only thanks to  legendary  Conchita Cintron (Al-Gharb) who inherited all Vasco Bensaude’s PWDs, that the first PWD found his way into the U.S.A.

Al-Gharb pure bred PWD s were EXPENSIVE, so soon were replaced by CHEAPER dogs with catastrophic results.

ALVALADE

Silves was the dog (1955) that originated the Alvalade kennels.

In 1972 the first Alvalade dog was exported to the U.S.A. (Trovoada) followed by Xelim (Improper smooth coated), whose matings produced dogs with undesirable features.

SOON GRASPING BREEDERS, on BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC bred countless litters that found their way into AMERICA & ENGLAND (back to Portugal), ITALY, HOLLAND etc. with those countless faults
·        improper coats
·        improper colors (brindle, black & tan)
·        ticking (penalized by the FCI)
·        long bodies
·        short legs
·        long necks
·        long ears

UNFORTUNATELY such bad influences are still to be found in dogs today seen in show rings, being put forward by ignorant (political) judges …

When a picture is worth thousand words.
