CARDIO...

THAT UNWANTED LEGACY

Less than 1 % reported.

Cardiomyopathy has become a nightmare
among PWDs with many victims.

GENETIC OR OTHERWISE

There has been a considerable discussion involving the predisposition, or not, to heart problems in PWDs.
When genetic, evidence indicate that, heart defects are mediated by polygenes.

CARDIO EASILY MASKED

When puppies die between 6 and 20 weeks, breathing difficulties can be caused, not only by inherited genes, but also by:

a)  Medication during gestation
b)  The ill-used of worming products
c)  Ill-reaction to vaccines
d)  Different virus, such as parvo-type 1 (PV1) and so on

AUTOPSY MUST BE PERFOMED

I remember when in 1998 I read the sad story of  'Brio' that died of Cardiomyopathy (copy of this article on request) It is also known that his stud was further used.

Breeders may not be responsable for all those genes but are certainly responsable for their mistakes such as inbreeding.
